Conducting her research project at Johnston Logistics UK has helped an aspiring leader gain top marks and a master’s degree with distinction.
Art Cheung joined the leading logistics providers to analyse the efficiency of their operations. Studying a MSc in Operations and Logistics Management at the University of East Anglia, Art chose ‘Internal Benchmarking of Warehouse Operation Efficiency’ as the final project to conclude her post-graduate studies.
“I was really pleased Johnston Logistics UK allowed me to research and write my dissertation on their logistics warehousing” says Art. “This has been an unforgettable experience and a fantastic opportunity to learn from such an established and recognised company.”
Spending time with the company’s team, Art collected data from every process in the company’s warehouses, ranging from resources spent loading and unloading to measuring productivity when sorting goods.
By combining the qualitive and quantitative data, Miss Cheung discovered which processes were most efficient and any which could be improved. As well as helping the Norwich-based student turn her theory into practise, the process has also been a useful and reflective tool for Johnston Logistics UK.
Art is an international student from Hong Kong. Her resulting dissertation achieved 83 out of 100, the second highest mark on her course. Now the proud recipient of a master’s degree with distinction, she hopes to continue studying in the UK for a PHD or find suitable employment in logistics management.
