Johnston Logistics UK has welcomed news from HMRC that the number of British Gin distilleries has doubled over the last 6 years.
The Norfolk-based logistics provider handles beer, wine and spirits for manufacturers across the UK from their large HMRC bonded warehouse on the A11.
“The figures come as little surprise” says Rob McIndoe, Finance Director of Johnston Logistics. “We’ve seen demand rise year-on-year for our bonded warehousing as more distilleries pop-up across the UK’.
Exports of English Gin also rose 12% in 2016, as distillers increasingly find an international marketplace for their products. The rise in popularity of ‘Artisan’ Gin has also been seen for other quality spirits, particularly whisky.
“Many of our customers started small but have ended up a huge success” says Rob. “From almost their first bottle, we’ve been able to provide them with flexible help so they can steadily grow and take advantage of opportunities”
Johnston Logistics UK are one of only a few bonded warehouses in East Anglia and just two in Norfolk. This allows them to handle alcohol before it is subject to duty (tax). With customers throughout England, their location is an advantage for reaching the main road arteries, ports and airports.
With 49 Gin distilleries opening in 2016 alone, it seems there will be little let-up in demand. “Though we provide logistics for a number of sectors, we’ve made our name in alcohol” concludes Rob. “Our secret is simple. We treat every bottle with the same care that the distiller did making it.”
