Despite disruption caused by the pandemic, Johnston Logistics UK’s staff survey has seen an increase in employee satisfaction as the business promotes staff support and wellbeing.
As well as a 30% increase in responses from the Johnston Logistics UK team of nearly 80 staff, the annual survey indicated employees felt there had been increases in training, communication and positivity.
Jane Bull, Head of Compliance & Business Support for Johnston Logistics UK, said “Over the last 12 months we’ve focused more than ever on listening to and supporting our team, so it’s very important to ask everyone’s opinions to gauge success.”
The staff survey consisted of 40 statements which all employees were invited to anonymously grade their agreement with. Questions ranged from how well they felt supported, to how involved they were in decisions and how proud they felt working for the company.
“Staff indicated improvements in nearly all areas, but the big success was that 100% of staff said they took pride in their work. It’s good news for our clients too as it makes for a really dedicated and productive workforce” adds Jane.
As well as questions about support and leadership, staff were asked about their wellbeing, work-life balance and safety. 83% agreed or strongly agreed the business supported them well in these areas, an increase on the previous year.
Having analysed results from the 2019 survey, the company had introduced changes including classroom training, mentoring of line managers, new equipment and changes to shift patterns and pay.
Jane continues “We strongly believe our company is only as good as its employees and we will now be exploring any further opportunities in this year’s survey, so we can continue to develop our brilliant team.”
Following the successful studying of ILM qualifications in leadership and management by a number of supervisors, Jane is rolling out a management mentoring programme to ensure all line managers have the skills and support they need.
Marc Bonsor, Warehouse Operative and finalist in the National Forfklift Operator of the Year Award, said “Taking pride in our work is where quality starts for the customer. Over the last year the atmosphere and culture in the yard has changed. We’re getting more feedback from our managers, so we know we are doing a good job. A little positive feedback goes a long way and it feels good!”
Jane concludes “With its unprecedented challenges, the pandemic just proved how important leadership and teamwork is within a company of our growing stature. We feel strongly that both our staff and clients benefit from the initiatives we’ve taken”.
