Liz Truss MP met with Norfolk-based Johnston Logistics UK to learn more about their increased success with overseas clients and ecommerce fulfilment.

Responding to a recent article in the EDP, the local MP and Chief Secretary to the Treasury was keen to discover why more international companies have approached the third-party logistics specialists since the Brexit referendum.

“It’s great to see a strong local business already benefitting from Brexit” said the member for South West Norfolk. “More international businesses are looking to Johnston’s to help them establish a dedicated UK hub for their products. As a government, we want to understand ways we can support UK businesses and help them maximise such opportunities.”

From their 130-acre site in Snetterton, Johnston Logistics UK deliver warehousing, logistics and fulfilment services for businesses throughout the UK, EU and across the globe. Liz toured their extensive operations, which range from bottling and distributing new-world wine for a leading supermarket, to providing logistics supporting to high-growth local businesses like Epos Now.

“We’re delighted to have Liz’s support and her here to listen to our ideas” says Rob McIndoe, Director of Johnston Logistics. “Though it will present challenges, we’ve experienced a boost from both Brexit and the change in UK consumer’s behaviour. As well as more overseas customers, we’re investing in technology to help us deliver ever better ecommerce fulfilment for the increasing number of consumers buying from our clients online.”

A strong supporter of the campaigns to dual the A47 and improve the Ely North rail junction, Liz Truss was surprised to discover Johnston Logistics’ own private railway siding which is used to transport materials and goods on the UK rail network. Whilst local transport infrastructure has greatly improved, both Liz and Rob identified that more can be done.

“Our unique rail-head is just another way we can help businesses reduce costs and increase productivity through their logistics” concludes Rob. Regardless of Brexit, he told his local MP the future for businesses should be focused on innovation and understanding customers’ needs. Johnston Logistics supports companies at every size and stage which he believes can only be achieved by being adaptive and attentive.
